“We are very proud of our students. This is the second year in a row that Laurentian students have come home from this prestigious competition having risen to the top amongst the best engineering students in Ontario,” commented president Dominic Giroux. “This year’s results prove again to the university sector and industry that our engineering programs are some of the best. In fact, we received this year a record number of high school applications for our engineering programs, up 15% over last year.”

The Ontario Engineering Competition is open to all university engineering programs and disciplines in the province. All senior teams are given the same design problem and have eight hours to solve it, build a prototype, make a formal presentation and operate it in front of a panel of judges.

The team will move on to the Canadian Engineering Competition to be held from March 18 to 21 at the University of Toronto.

« Nous sommes très fiers de nos étudiants. Pour une deuxième année consécutive, ils se classent premier à cette compétition prestigieuse, saisissant ainsi les plus hauts rangs parmi les meilleurs étudiants en génie de l’Ontario, a commenté le recteur Dominic Giroux. Cette année, les résultats prouvent une fois de plus aux secteurs universitaire et industriel que nos programmes en génie sont parmi les meilleurs. En fait, nous avons reçu cette année un nombre record de demandes d’admission à nos programmes en génie des étudiants du secondaire, soit 15 % de plus que l’année dernière. »

La Compétition en génie de l’Ontario est ouverte à toutes les écoles et les disciplines en génie de la province. Les équipes participantes reçoivent le même problème de design. On leur accorde huit heures pour le résoudre, construire un prototype, en faire une présentation formelle et le faire fonctionner devant un panel de juges.

L’équipe championne de l’Université Laurentienne se rendra à l’Université de Toronto pour la compétition nationale du 18 au 21 mars 2010.
